Death anniversary of Birshrestha Munshi Abdur Rouf to be observed today
The 47th death anniversary of Birshrestha Lance Nayek Munshi Abdur Rouf will be observed today.
Munshi Abdur Rouf was born to Mnshi Mehedi Hossain and Mukidummesa on May 8, 1943 at Salamatpur village, which was later renamed as Rouf Nagar in Madhukhali Upazila in Faridpur.
Rouf joined the East Pakistan Rifles (EPR) on 8 May 1963 and in March 1971 he was posted at 11 Wing of the EPR in Chittagong.
On April 8, when the Pakistan army launched an attack on the freedom fighters, they were retreated with the firing from the lone LMG of Munshi Abdur Rauf.
Suddenly an enemy mortar shell fell upon him and scattered his body into pieces. His fellow warriors later buried him on a hillock near the Naniarchar shrimp canal.
On this occasion, Madhukhali Upazila administration will place floral wreaths at his portrait in Birsreshtho Lance Nayek Munshi Abdur Rouf Library and Museum in Faridpur, and his family members will arrange a memorial meeting, milad mahfil at their residence.
