Ananta Jalil, govt extend support
Former actor and businessman Ananta Jalil and the social welfare ministry expressed willingness to bear the educational expenses of the two younger brothers of Rajib Hossain.
On his Facebook verified page, Ananta expressed his shock over the death of Rajib on Tuesday. “The future of his two younger brothers is at risk due to Rajib's untimely death. Therefore, on the day of my birthday I want to take the responsibility of education of the two children who has no family,” Ananta said in the post.
Ananta, chairman and managing director of AJI Group, told The Daily Star yesterday that he wanted to admit the two siblings at a school or madrasa in Hemayetpur area near his factory so that he can look after them.
“Even after their studies, if they want jobs, I will give them jobs in my company according to their qualifications,” he added.
He sought support from the concerned persons to contact the two siblings so that they can have a better future.
Meanwhile, Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon, at a press conference at his Secretariat office, said the government will bear all educational expenses of the two younger brothers of Rajib, says a press release.
“The government took the responsibility of Rajib's medical treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries... Now the future of his two younger brothers is at risk due to Rajib's untimely death," the minister said.
“A proposal has already been sent to Rajib's family. If they agree, then we will send the two brothers to Mirpur Shishu Paribar (children home).”
Besides, the minister announced a donation of Tk 50,000 to Rajib's family from the government treasury for his burial.
“We'll not only take responsibility of their education but also take steps for their jobs after giving them technical education,” he said.
He urged the affluent section of the society to stand beside the helpless people.
Contacted, Rajib's aunt Jahanara Begum told The Daily Star that they would appreciate if anyone offers to help the two siblings. But they want to keep them with the family, she added.
RAJIB LAID TO REST
Rajib Hossain was laid to rest in Baufal upazila of Patuakhali yesterday morning.
He was buried beside his mother's grave at Dashpara village around 10:00am after his third namaz-e-janaza at a mosque in front of his home, reports our Patuakhali correspondent. He was just 22.
Earlier, his second namaj-e-janaza was held on the Baufal public field where around a thousand people including ASM Feroz, chief whip of Jatiya Sangsad, Deputy Commissioner of Patuakhali Dr Masumur Rahman and Superintendent of Police Moinul Hasan were present.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held on the High Court premises in the capital on Tuesday. His body was taken to his village home around early yesterday.
On April 3, the third-year student of Government Titumir College lost his right hand after it got stuck between two speeding buses trying to overtake each other in the capital's Bangla Motor area.
Profusely bleeding, the 22-year-old was taken to Samorita Hospital in Panthapath. Later, he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
He also suffered brain haemorrhage in the accident, and had been on life support in the Intensive Care Unit since April 10. He died on Tuesday at DMCH.
Rajib was a guardian to his younger brothers -- Abdullah Hridoy, 14, and Mehedi Hasan Bappi, 15, -- after the death of their father in 2007.
Their mother had died when Rajib was only eight years old and the youngest brother was just 10 months. They had all been looked after by extended family members.
Rajib, after his higher secondary certificate exams, began to work in graphics designing in 2012 and partially bore his brothers' educational expenditure.
The brothers -- sixth and seventh grade students of Tamirul Millat Madrasa -- were also present during the janaza and burial.
“We not only buried our brother today [yesterday], we also buried all our hopes…,” said Mehedi. His younger brother Hridoy stood beside him holding his hand tight. He did not want to let go of it.
Rajib's uncle Jahidul Islam, an office assistant at the education ministry, said his nephew was taking care of his two brothers while continuing his studies. “He wanted to become a lawyer...,” he could not finish the sentence.
Rajib lived at a mess in Jatrabari with his two brothers. He paid for his education from the money he earned working at a computer shop in Dholaipar area.
“After the death of his parents, the responsibility of raising his two younger brothers fell on his shoulders. Although we support them as much as we can, he tries his best to help his brothers from his earnings from the computer shop," said Rajib's aunt Jahanara Begum, who lives with her family in Fakirapool in Dhaka.
Recently, Rajib got enrolled at BASIS Institute of Technology and Management at Karwan Bazar for a three-month training programme on graphic design.
On April 3, he was going to attend his class at 1:30pm at the training centre when he had the accident.
