Eight female computer science students from different universities were awarded by an NGO yesterday for developing women-related mobile based applications.
Bangladesh Women in Technology (BWIT) working for women empowerment in the IT sector gave the awards at an event “Expand Horizon, Change Attitudes” in the capital's The Daily Star Centre, marking International Girls in ICT Day.
Fifteen teams of females participated in the competition.
The team comprising Jannatul Ferdous Tumpa and Samia Shafique from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) was awarded the first prize.
The group of Mitrasree Deb and Nourin Haque Ridi from Buet got the second prize.
Two teams -- one comprising Rahatara Ferdousi and Tarannum Faria Raisa from Khulna University and another of Rubiya Rawshon and Honufa Akter from the University of Information Technology & Science (UITS) -- jointly got the third prize.
