Zero possibility of salt crisis during Eid: salt traders
Bangladesh has enough salt in stock to meet the leather sector's demand in the next three months, a peak season for rawhide collection centring the Eid-ul-Azha, a top salt trader said today.
The country has 3.5 lakh tonnes of salt in stock, which is four times higher than the seasonal requirement of 60,000-70,000 tonnes, said Nurul Kabir, president of the Bangladesh Salt Mill Owners Association.
If the price of salt increases in the days to come, it will not rise more than Tk 1 per kilogramme, he said.
He spoke in a meeting with the officials of the Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection along with the leather and salt traders taken place in the office of the directorate in Dhaka's Karwan Bazar.
The meeting was organised to ensure stable prices and supply of salt during the Eid-ul-Azha.
