First consignment of hilsa sent to India for Durga Puja
Bangladesh has exported the first consignment containing eight tonnes of hilsa fish to India via Benapole land port on the occasion of Durga Puja, an annual Hindu festival.
A total of 2,450 tonnes of hilsa will be delivered by September 30 to India as per the previous decision of the government.
After completing customs and formalities at Benapole port, two trucks carrying eight tonnes of hilsa reached Petrapole port in India tonight (September 5, 2022), our Benapole correspondent reports quoting Tanvir Hossain, deputy commissioner of Benapole Customs House.
Tanvir said the first consignment of hilsa was sent by Mahima Enterprise of Barisal, a hilsa exporting company, and it was received by Indian importer SR International of Kolkata.
The official said the hilsa was exported at a price of USD 10 per kg.
On Sunday, the commerce ministry allowed 49 companies to export hilsa to India. Each company will be able to export 50 tons of hilsa.
