Benapole customs cancel C&F agent's licence for evading Tk 1cr tax
Benapole Custom House today cancelled the licence of a clearing and forwarding (C&F) agent for allegedly evading tax of Tk 1 crore by making false declaration.
According to customs sources, some 39 trucks carrying grapes, tomatoes and pomegranates were imported from India through Benapole land port on Saturday. C&F agent Royal Enterprise was in charge of delivering the consignment.
The consignments were delivered by Royal Enterprise from the land port on the same day without informing the authorities, said the customs sources.
Confirming the matter, Dr Neyamul Islam, additional commissioner of Benapole Custom House, told our correspondent that the license of Royal Enterprise has been suspended on charge of forcibly removing 39 trucks carrying goods from the port.
The incident is being investigated, the commissioner said.
Meanwhile, the C&F agent was forced to deposit the revenue to the government treasury yesterday morning, added the customs official.
Contacted, Rafiqul Islam Royal, owner of Royal Enterprise, admitted the incident but said that the tax has been paid to the customs.
