Bangladesh to open Saidpur Airport for Nepal
Bangladesh has agreed to Nepal using Saidpur Airport in Nilphamari, said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.
The neighbouring country had earlier proposed to use the airport to enhance trade and connectivity between the two countries, the minister said after holding a meeting with his Nepalese counterpart Pradeep Kumar Gyawali in Dhaka today.
Gyawali arrived yesterday following an invitation from Bangladesh.
"We said yes. Now a technical committee will see what type of flights can land and take off from here," Momen told reporters after the meeting held at the state guest house Meghna.
The two South Asian nations have agreed to enhance trade, connectivity and remove all barriers in this regard, according to Momen.
Gyawali said that Bangladesh could get 500MW hydropower within the next five/six years as Indian company GMR was going to start construction of a hydropower plant in Nepal soon.
