Samsung Galaxy Grand 2
presents Campus Soundbox at IUB

Presented by Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 and powered by U-Cash, 'Campus Soundbox' has begun at Independent University, Bangladesh. Campus Soundbox is an initiative of Creinse Limited, the official Programme Syndication Partner of MTV/Viacom in Bangladesh. The key objective of the event is to discover fresh music talents from the campuses of six leading private universities of Bangladesh, in association with MTV Program Platform Bangladesh.

The registration process was launched by renowned musicians Shafin Ahmed and Romel Ali. Amidst numerous requests from the students, Shafin Ahmed sang his classic “Firiye Dao”. Along with the IUB students, members of the Division of Student Activity (DoSA), and senior management were also present at the event. Bayezeed Hassan Shawon, Marketing Head of Creinse Limited, was also present.

This talent search kicked off at IUB on June 15 and continued till July 3. Selected applicants will face an online voting at the Creinse/SamsungMobileBangladesh official Facebook page from July 13 to 24. After the voting concludes, shortlisted applicants will go through live auditions in front of an esteemed judging panel in August at the IUB Multipurpose Hall and from them the winning musical act will be crowned the Campus Soundbox winner of IUB. The winning Solo/Band act will also get their single recorded and a music video made, sponsored by Creinse; get an opportunity to perform at the Premiere Show in the university; and have the chance to feature their videos on MTV Program Platform shows. All these recognitions will be further strengthened by significant PR across all media segments. Plans are also there to have all the winners of all the universities to perform at a Campus Sound Box Music Fest, which will be held in early 2015.

Rovers of DIU Receive National
Service Award of Bangladesh Scouts

Eleven Rovers of Daffodil International University (DIU) received 'National Service Award of Bangladesh Scouts' for the year 2012. As recognition of their outstanding performance and glorious service to the society, Bangladesh Scout conferred this award. To celebrate this achievement, DIU Air Rover Scout Group accorded a reception to award winners on July 19 at DIU Auditorium. The function was presided over by Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, Vice Chancellor of the university and President, DIU Air Rover Scout Group. Former Deputy National Commissioner (Programme) of Bangladesh Scout, Md. Arifuzzaman Arif, PRS graced the occasion as the chief guest while Wing Commander M. Rafiqul Islam, Former Secretary, Air Region was present as the special guest. The function was addressed by Mahabub Parvez, Head, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management; Md. Anowar Habib Kazal, Assistant Director (Public Relations) and Treasurer, DIU Air Rover Scout Group; Ziaul Haque Sumon, RSL; and Md. Shaiful Islam Khan, Officer (PR) and RSL, DIU Air Rover Scout Group.

In his address, Professor Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman said that Scouting helps the students to increase interaction among themselves, gain experience and focus to perform well in professional life.

Huawei Campus Clickers

Huawei Device Bangladesh has recently started a photo contest for smartphone photographers, a lot of whom are university students. The competition has started from June 26 and will likely wrap up before Eid.

The competition is being held at six private universities of Bangladesh: North South University, Independent University Bangladesh, BRAC University, Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology, East West University and American International University-Bangladesh. The three-day campaign is called 'Huawei Experience Booth'. It has three zones -- the first zone displays Huawei's five recent handsets, people can look around and registrar. The second zone is the TV Gaming zone where people can play TV games and can registrar for it. The third zone is called cellography where all the information about this competition is being disseminated and students are asked to submit their photos taken with cell phones.

Categories of the competition include action, architecture, nature, football etc. The submission process lasts for three days. After that the photos are judged by Ashraful Awal Mishuk and Debasish Shom, lecturers of Pathshala-South Asian Media Institute, Photography Department. Each university gets one winner, and all six winners will get attractive devices. Finally these six winners' photos will be posted on the Huawei Facebook page where the photo which gets the maximum likes will be declared as the ultimate winner of the 'Huawei Campus Clickers'. The winner will get a latest Huawei handset.

Seminar on Research Methodology at BUBT

A seminar on 'Research Methodology in English Literature and Language' was held at the Department of English of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) in its permanent campus at Rupnagar, Mirpur, Dhaka on June 25. The seminar was organised by the Department of English, BUBT. Dr. A.K.M Waliul Islam, Professor of the Institute of Modern Languages (IML) of Dhaka University, was the keynote speaker. The Vice Chancellor of BUBT, Professor Md. Abu Saleh, was the Chief Guest at the session.

Dr. Islam focused on research methodology of both the streams of literature and language. He briefly discussed the qualitative and quantitative research. He concentrated on the procedure of describing research problems, setting general and specific objectives in a research work, different sampling procedures and tools, procedures of drawing inferences and the findings in a research work and so on.

The Vice Chancellor of BUBT Professor Md. Abu Saleh, in his speech, said that research is a systematic search of learning the truth, knowing the world, generate new information and adding them to existing knowledge of the world.

The seminar was attended by Proctor of BUBT, Professor Mian Lutfar Rahman; Dean, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and of Social Sciences, Professor Abu Taher Mojumder; and Deans and teachers of other departments and huge number of students of the university. The seminar was presided over by the Chairman of the Department of English, Md. Mohoshin Reza.
