BCL men assault Samajtantrik Chhatra Front chief at BAU
A group of Bangladesh Chhatra League activists, including an accused in the Saad killing case, assaulted Ashraf Milton, the president of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) unit, on the campus Wednesday night.
The victim was treated in Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Faysal Islam Joy, a BCL activist who was charged, along with 13 others, with the killing of Saad Ibney Momtaj, a general student, said Milton snatched his mobile phone, so they beat him up.
Proctor Prof Harun-ur-Rashid rescued Milton and sent him to hospital.
Dismissing Joy's allegations outright, Milton said 10-15 students including Joy, Apu, Bappi, Limon, Rintu, and Akondo, attacked him around 9:30pm. He was kicked and slapped, he said.
The victim said he might have been attacked because of his role against the killing of Saad by BCL men early this year.
The left-leaning student bodies, including his Chhatra Front, were very vocal against the murder in media and through street protests. Saad was beaten up on March 31, and he died the next day.
Meanwhile, the left-leaning student bodies under the banner "Progotishil Chhatra Jot" yesterday brought out a procession on the campus demanding punitive measures against those who attacked Milton.
The proctor said necessary steps would be taken after a proper investigation.
