Possessing LSD: 5 university students denied bail
A Dhaka court today rejected bail petitions of five university students and sent them to jail in connection with a case filed for possessing the hallucinogenic drug LSD.
The five arrestees are: Saiful Islam Saif, SM Monwar Aqib alias Anan, Nazmus Sakib, Nazmul Islam and BM Sirajus Salekin alias Topu.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Baki Billah passed the order after Investigation Officer Badrul Al Amin, also a sub-inspector of Khilgaon Police Station, produced them before the court on completion of their five-day remand in the case.
In the forwarding report, the IO said all five arrestees are members of a racket and they are selling and providing the narcotics. Moreover, they gave important information about their involvement with selling LSD and other narcotics in various parts of the city.
So, the accused should be confined in jail until the investigation of the case is completed, the IO added in the forwarding report.
The defence for the accused submitted separate petitions seeking bail, saying that their clients were implicated in the case to harass them.
Meantime, defence for Nazmus Sakib, submitted a petition for declaring him a juvenile. But the court didn't pass any order on the issue.
Upon hearing both the sides, the magistrate rejected the defence pleas and sent them to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.
