Dhaka University exams to be held online as Covid situation deteriorates

DU to hold classes and exams in-person from May 8

The Dhaka University authorities have asked all concerned departments to hold final examinations of all academic years online as the Covid-19 situation in the country has deteriorated.

"We are going to take honours and masters final examinations online as the Covid-19 situation is deteriorating. We have taken the decision following our previous Academic Council meeting," said DU Pro Vice-Chancellor (education) Prof ASM Maksud Kamal.

A guideline on the method of online examination was sent to all the departments and faculties yesterday, Maksud Kamal told our DU correspondent.

On June 1, the university authorities at a meeting of Academic Council decided to hold in-person final examinations of all academic years from July 1, maintaining Covid-19 health guidelines. But the university also decided to take examinations online from the same date if the situation in Bangladesh deteriorates.

Meanwhile, the government yesterday announced a complete lockdown for seven days from Monday to stem the surge in Covid-19 cases.

Today, Maksud Kamal further said the decision on whether to take examinations during the lockdown will be taken at a meeting which was scheduled tomorrow.
