Parliament goes into 9th session today
Parliament is set to go into its ninth session today after a 59-day recess as the last (budget) session was prorogued on July 9.
"The session will begin at 11:00am tomorrow [today] maintaining the health codes amid the Covid-19 pandemic like it was done during the last session," Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury told UNB yesterday.
President Abdul Hamid on August 19 summoned the 9th session (4th session of this year) of the 11th parliament exercising the power bestowed upon him as per clause (1) of article 72 of the constitution.
The last session was prorogued after only nine sittings due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country. It was the shortest budget session in Bangladesh's history.
According to the constitution, the gap between the end of a session of Jatiya Sangsad and the first sitting of the next session shall not exceed a period of 60 days.
