It's a drama
Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami league, alleged that “a drama was staged” at Dhaka University's Rukayyah Hall to “bring controversy in the Ducsu election”.
Leaders of BCL threatened to file a case against those involved with the “drama” at a press conference held at the Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University yesterday.
The press conference was organised after reports of mass irregularities surfaced from two girls' halls -- Ruqayyah Hall and Bangladesh-Kuwait Maitree Hall -- where proofs of irregularity were found.
After three hours of protests after suspected discrepancy of ballot boxes, girls of Ruqayyah Hall found unmarked ballot papers in the hall, which were allegedly hidden from the election process.
A Ducsu VP candidate, Nurul Haq Nur, was allegedly assaulted at Ruqayyah Hall and “another attack was attempted” on another VP candidate Liton Nandi.
Liton, Nur and general secretary candidate Rashed Khan will be accused in the case, they said, adding that they demand the cancellation of studentship of the three candidates.
“They cannot prove any allegation that they placed. The drama was staged nicely. Now they are looking for a safe exit sensing they will be rejected in the ballot,” Golam Rabbani, BCL general secretary, told journalists.
BCL President and VP candidate Rezwanul Huq Shovon said, “Nur, Liton Nandi and Chhatra Dal leaders got together to make the election questionable. Yesterday [Sunday] we assumed that they would try to sabotage.”
Rabbani told journalists that Liton, Nur and Rashed's studentship should be permanently scrapped.
Chhatra League leaders ruled out the demand of re-election made by the other candidates.
He claimed that the ballot papers found in the trunk of Ruqayyah Hall was fake. “The extra ballot papers were kept in another room for the security of the ballot papers.”
Rabbani also claimed that there was no similarity between the original ballot and the ballots found in Kuwait Maitree Hall. “There was no similarity of the signatures and seals of the hall provost.”
He claimed that the whole issue was a “part of the conspiracy by Nur-Liton”.
Dhaka University unit Chhatra League president Sanit Chandra Das, Assistant GS candidate Saddam Hossain and other BCL leaders were present in the conference.
