COVID Cases: Positivity rate falls to 14.96pc
The positivity rate for Covid-19 testing in the country has come down to lowest 14.96 percent in more than three months as the health directorate reported 2,158 new cases in 24 hours till 8:30am yesterday.
A total of 14,422 samples were tested across the country during the 24-hour period.
Positivity rate or detection rate is the percentage of positive cases against the total number of tests carried out in a day.
A positivity rate less than five percent means the transmission of the virus is under control.
Earlier on May 19, the positivity rate was 14.81 percent against 8,449 tests. Since then, the rate kept on rising and it reached highest 25.33 percent on July 17, according to data of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The positivity rate was hovering over 20 percent till the last quarter of August when it started to go down.
With the new confirmed cases in 24 hours till 8:30am yesterday, the total number of novel coronavirus cases in the country rose to 319,686. The overall positivity rate is slightly over 20 percent.
During the same period, another 32 people died from Covid-19 in the country.
With them, the total number of deaths from the virus rose to 4,383. The death rate now stands at 1.37 percent, according to a DGHS press release.
Of all confirmed Covid-19 patients in Bangladesh, nearly 2.14 lakh have recovered till yesterday. The recovery rate is about 67 percent.
The rest of 101,323 patients are now undergoing treatment -- mostly at home. These are called active cases.
Of all active cases, only 3,798 were receiving treatment in general beds of hospitals and 316 in ICU beds.
There are 14,474 general beds and 550 ICU beds in hospitals designated for Covid-19 patients across the country.
Among the 32 latest deceased, 31 died at hospitals and one at home. Eight of them were females and 24 males.
Two of the deceased were aged between 41 and 50, 12 between 51 and 60, and the highest 18 were aged over 60.
Nearly half of all deceased were aged over 60. More than 48 percent of them were from Dhaka division.
In the 24-hour period till 8:30am yesterday, 613 people were placed in institutional isolation.
With them, the total number of people under institutional isolation now stands at 19,869.
