Cop arrested, sent to jail for raping teen
A police constable landed in jail yesterday on charge of raping a teenaged girl in Feni's Fulgaji.
The constable -- Towhidul Islam Shaon, 21, of Shalbagan Police Camp -- was arrested from Rangamati on Thursday night.
Fulgaji Police Station Officer-in-charge Qutub Uddin confirmed the matter.
On Thursday afternoon, the victim's mother filed a case against Towhidul, his father Aminul Islam, mother Shanu and a man named Firoz Ahmed Babu, said the OC.
The OC said Towhidul was produced in court yesterday and the court sent him to jail, reports our Feni correspondent.
According to the case statement, Towhidul took the girl, a ninth-grader, to a house in Feni on June 1, 2020.
There she was drugged and raped several times. When she was regaining consciousness, Towhid threatened to spread private videos and pictures of her on Facebook if she protested.
Later, when the girl became pregnant, locally influential people started to cover up the incident. At one stage, they ousted the rape survivor's family from society, the case statement said.
On February 11, the girl gave birth to a baby -- eight months and 10 days after the incident.
When her relatives informed Towhidul about the matter, he denied any such incident and threatened them, according to the statement.
