BFF women chief in jail for remarks about Hasina
A Dhaka court yesterday sent Bangladesh Football Federation's women wing Chairperson Mahfuza Akter Kiron to jail on charges of “making derogatory comments on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina”.
Abul Hasan Chowdhury Prince, permanent member of Mohammedan Sporting Club and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, filed a defamation case against Kiron on Tuesday under “CrPC 500”.
Police arrested Kiron, also a FIFA council member, yesterday after Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari issued an arrest warrant against her on Wednesday.
Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station, said, “A police team arrested her [Kiron] in Dhanmondi area around 11:00am.”
She was later placed before a court, he added.
Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman sent Kiron to jail rejecting her bail petition, court sources said.
A private TV channel had aired a report on March 9 with an audio clip of Kiron where she was heard making remarks against the prime minister and criticising her lack of attention towards the women's football.
