3 land in jail over rape of 5th-grader
Three people, including a woman, landed in jail yesterday in two rape cases in Patuakhali and Mymensingh.
Police said the victim in Patuakhali is a fifth-grader who lives in a village of Amtali upazila. Around 4:00pm on Sunday, she was playing at her home yard when one of her neighbours Rashida Begum, 45, lured her into going to her home, promising to give her some gifts.
Then, Rubel Khalifa, 28, a resident of a nearby village, appeared there and raped the girl with the help of Rashida, said the police, quoting the statement of a case filed over the incident.
After returning home, the girl told her family members about the incident and her father filed the case against Rubel and Rashida later that night with Amtali Police Station.
The two were arrested hours later and produced before a district court, which sent them to jail yesterday, said Md Shah Alam Hawladar, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
In Mymensingh, a court yesterday sent a manto jail on charge of raping a woman in Nandail upazila.
The accused is Muqbul Hossain, 60, a resident of Duttapur village in the upazila. The 35-year-old victim from Bagerhat works at a garment factory in Dhaka.
Police said the woman, a mother of two, has been separated from her husband for around three years. She heard that Muqbul had "spiritual powers" to reunite such couples so she went to his house in Mymensingh on Thursday, seeking help to get her husband back, said police.
Later, the accused allegedly raped the woman.
On Sunday evening, the victim fled from the house and filed a case with Nandail police station against the man. Police later arrested him and produced him before the court, which sent him to jail yesterday, said Md Mizanur Rahman, OC of the police station.
