2 killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab
Two men were killed in a “gunfight” between Rab and an alleged group of drug dealers in Jhauban area of Cox’s Bazar early yesterday.
Of the deceased, one was identified as Md Masum, 35, while the identity of the other could not be known immediately, said Shah Alam, assistant director of Rab-15.
Tipped off that a group of smugglers were trading drugs, a team of Rab-15 took position near the Diabetic Hospital Point around 2:00am, the Rab official said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the smugglers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back that triggered a “shootout”, he added.
Later, Rab members recovered the two with bullet injuries and took them to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
Rab men also recovered a firearm, three bullets and 10,000 yaba pills from the spot.
The bodies were kept at the hospital for autopsies, said Farid Uddin Khandakar, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station.
