Swapnadal to hold Selim Al Deen festival
Marking the 68th birth anniversary of Nattyacharya Selim Al Deen on August 18, theatre troupe Swapnadal is holding a three-day festival on August 18-20 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). This is the 16th time the troupe is holding the festival.
The festival will see staging of three plays by the troupe – "Chitrangada", "Helen Keller" and "Hargaz", along with special discussions, lectures and other initiatives. The opening ceremony at the Studio Theatre Hall, that will also see a staging of Swapnadal's adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore's "Chitrangada", will be attended by thespians Dr. Afsar Ahmed and Akhtaruzzaman. The play is directed by Zahid Repon.
Earlier in the day, the troupe, along with fans and followers of Selim Al Deen, will travel to Jahangirnagar University by bus in the morning to hold a rally and lay wreaths at his grave.
On the second day, a lecture on Selim Al Deen's theatrical philosophy and style and obstacles to its practices will be given by eminent theatre personality Nasiruddin Yousuff. Eminent thespian Ataur Rahman will chair the session. Monodrama "Helen Keller", written by Apurba Kumar Kundu, directed by Zahid Repon and acted by Zuwena Shabnam, will be staged at the Studio Theatre Hall.
The closing day will see the staging of Selim Al Deen's classic "Hargaz" at the Experimental Theatre Hall (BSA), followed by a closing ceremony.
