A Season of Bangla Drama
A cultural festival, titled ‘A Season of Bangla Drama’ is being organised in London from November 1 to November 24, by London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
The joyous celebration of Bangladeshi theatre will feature four Bangladeshi personalities: Eminent actor, politician and activist Asaduzzaman Noor, renowned journalist and editor for The Daily Star’s Showbiz and Anandadhara, Rafi Hossain, Doctoral researcher at Goldsmiths university, Sudip Chakroborthy, and legendary theatre personality, Syed Jamil Ahmed.
On November 2, Assaduzaman Noor in conversation with Leesa Gazi will focus on the former’s journey through performing arts in Post-Independence Bangladesh, as it aims to portray the struggle that his generation faced in performing arts. The session will be moderated by writer, theatre practitioner, filmmaker and Joint Artist Director at Komola Collective, Leesa Gazi.
Rafi Hossain’s Musings on November 6 will see the journalist and theatre activist talk about his journey, and his take on the changes in Bangladeshi theatre and its evolution from its roots, to the current era of digitalisation.
The workshop, Performing Bangladesh Theatre on November 17by Sudip Chakroborthy will attempt to explore the identity and society, seen by different generations of the British Bangladeshi community.
The maestro, Jamil Ahmed, has two sessions: a talk titled A Personal Testimony in Confrontation on November 20, and a Masterclass on November 24. The notion of abhinaya (acting) will be explored by this legendary personality with intensive international experience.
