Remembering Wasim through his super-hit film melodies
The folk and fantasy action hero of the Bangladesh film industry, Wasim has been featured in over 150 films in his illustrious career. Several of his hit films presented the audience with numerous popular and iconic songs. Even after decades, these songs are still popular and have been immortalised.
Popular film, "Dost Dushmon", starring Wasim and Shabana featured the iconic song, "Chumki Choleche Eka Pothe." With legendary Khurshid Alam's voice and Wasim-Shabana's great chemistry, the song is a classic fan favourite, still remembered by everyone.
"Ei Mon Tomake Dilam," by Sabina Yasmin is one of the most classic romantic songs gifted by the film industry. The film, "Manosi" featured Wasim and Rozina as a couple and the song has been popularised across generations.
Directed by Ibne Mizan, the film, "Jighangsha" was another hit film featuring Wasim and late actor Joba Chowdhury. "Pakhir Nirer Moto Duti Chokh Tomar," was one of the greatest hits of that time.
Another Ibne Mizan directorial, "Raj Dulari" presented a hit song, "Prem Korecho Tumi Ar Mon Diyecho Tumi", which featured Wasim and Shabana in the lead roles. Khurshid Alam and Runa Laila rendered their voice in this hit production.
"The Rain", one of Wasim's most talked about films, produced "Megh Ay Re", a beautiful romantic ballad.
The film, "Toofan" was one of the most popular films of Wasim's career. The song, "Hirar Cheye Dami Shonar Cheye Dami," is another classic hit of the 70s. Sung by Runa Laila and Khurshid Alam this song won the music lovers' hearts.
Wasim and Olivia have appeared in several films together. One of their most famous film, "Bahadur" features a song, "Rupe Amar Agun Jwole", which was another instant hit.
Several new actors entered the film industry with their debut films, as then superstar Wasim's heroines. Rozina being one of them later made a name for herself as a powerful film actor.
The pair of Wasim and Anju Ghosh was among the most popular romantic pairs of the golden age of cinema.
"Norom Gorom" was one of the most popular and commercially successful films at the time by the Wasim-Anju pair. The iconic Runa Laila song, "Ei Brishti Bheja Rate Chole Jeyo Na," was from this iconic film.
"Chandan Dwiper Rajkanya", presented the song, "Ami Tomari Premo Bhikhari" by Syed Abdul Hadi. Abdul Hadi's charming voice and Wasim's powerful screen presence made this song another memorable one. Anju Ghosh starred opposite Wasim in this film. The film presented us with a treasure trove of precious songs upon its release.
"Bonomali Tumi Poro Jonome Hoio Radha," this song was also popularised through this film.
Sabina Yasmin's "Monta Jodi Khola Jeto Shinduker Moto", also from this film, featured both Wasim and Anju Ghosh in the scene.
Runa Laila's "Ailo Darun Fagun Re Laglo Mone Agun Re," another instant success was also by this film.
The film, "Banjaran", another commercially successful film, featured several legendary hits. "Amra Toh Banjaran Dekhabo" by Runa Laila and "Hatu Jole Neme Kanya Hatu Majon Kore", by Syed Abdul Hadi are among the most popular ones.
Abdul Jabbar's famous song, "Omon Kore Jeyo Na go Tumi", featured the Wasim-Shabana pair in the film, "Iman".
Featuring Wasim-Anju Ghosh, "Abe Hayat" film presented the song, "Pitoler Kolshi Hole Hay Re," which was yet another instant hit of the decade.
The film, "Sawdagor" along with its songs created a special place in the audience's hearts. Khurshid Alam and Runa Laila voiced the song, "Ore Mon Chora Tumi Pore Gecho Dhora," featuring the Wasim-Anju Ghosh pair once again.
