Nritya Nandan performs 'Chandalika' in Singapore
Nritya Nandan recently visited Singapore with a 15-member dance troupe, led by renowned dancer, choreographer and director of Nritya Nandan, Sharmila Banerjee. They performed Rabindranath Tagore's dance drama, Chandalika, at the School of the Arts Singapore Concert Hall. The programme was organised by the Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore and supported by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of Bangladesh. The team was accompanied by three representatives from the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The programme was houseful and a very successful show. The audience included diplomats from 30 other embassies in Singapore, as well as many guests from the Indian and Bangladeshi communities there. The performance was applauded by the audience. The High Commissioner was delighted to announce that the team and their performance made them proud as Bangladeshis on an international stage. They expressed their amazement at the professional approach of the team in technical aspects like light and set design. They also appreciated the skillful dancers. The High Commissioner arranged a reception dinner afterwards in honour of the artistes for their performance.
