‘Nobin Shilpi Charukola Prodorshoni 2020’ kicks off
To inspire young artists from all over the country, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has arranged the 22nd edition of their month-long art exhibition titled, 'Nobin Shilpi Charukola Prodorshoni 2020'. The opening and prize-giving ceremony of the exhibition was held both online and offline, at the National Art Plaza Auditorium of BSA, yesterday evening.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, MP, attended the event as the chief guest and State Minister of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs K M Khalid, MP, was present as the special guest. Md Badrul Arifin, Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, noted artist Shahid Kabir, and Md Abdul Mannan Elias, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, were also in attendance, among others.
The programme, presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General of BSA, started with a welcome address by Syeda Mahbuba Karim, Director, Department of Fine Arts, BSA. This was followed by a speech by reputed art critic Mustafa Zaman on behalf of the jury board.
Around 1,400 artworks were submitted by 519 different aspiring artists aged between 21 and 35 from all over the nation. The submissions consisted of paintings, sculptures, oriental artworks, pottery, graphic designs, photographs, installations, performances and new media art forms, among many other variations.
Among the submissions, 368 artworks by 337 young artists were chosen by the selection committee for this exhibition. The members of the selection committee were popular artistes Ivy Zaman, Rashid Amin, Dulal Chandra Gain, Harun Ar Rashid Tutul, Mofizul Islam and Shawon Akanda.
A total of 12 prizes were awarded to the participating artists in 11 categories. The jury panel consisted of artist Naima Haque, photographer Nair Ali Mamun, artists Mohammad Iqbal, Mustafa Zaman, Anisuzzaman and Sheikh Sadi Bhuiyan.
The first prize for the competition was awarded to Shoma Shurobhi Zannat for her artwork "Adikotha". The other award winners were: Md Tariqul Islam for "Revenge-2" (painting), Md Rafiqul Islam for "New Born-1, 2, 3" (imprint), Md Mozahidur Rahman Sarker for "Territorial Rest" (sculpture), Sanjoy Kumar Pramanik for "Ashroy" (oriental art), Rubaiyat-E-Sharmin for "Astha-2", (crafts), Tanvir Hossain Rhythm for "Onugotter Shomorpon" (pottery), Imran Hassan for "Oparthrito Otithi" (graphic design), Mohsin Kabir for "Grameen Chhaya" (photography), Kuntol Baroi for "Dorshon O Shondo" (installation art), Naim Hossain for "Jibon o Dondho" (performance art), and Md Fazlul Haque for "Thomke Joa Shabhabik" (new media art).
The first prize winner was awarded with BDT 1 lakh, whereas the other winners in each category received BDT 50,000. All the winners received certificates, crests and medals.
The selected artworks are currently on display at galleries 1, 5, and 6 of National Art Plaza. It is open for all till December 29, 2020. Keeping the ongoing pandemic in mind, the exhibition was also released online on BSA's official Facebook and YouTube pages.
Alongside this event, another special exhibition, curated by the country's 12 top public universities and art institutes, is currently underway at gallery 3 of the National Art Plaza Auditorium. A catalogue, featuring all the selected artworks, has also been published recently.
