Kazi Hasan Habib’s ‘Unveiling the Truth’ opens at Dwip Gallery today
The solo art exhibition, Unveiling the Truth, by deceased artist Kazi Hasan Habib, begins at Dwip Gallery, Lalmatia, today. Mustafa Zaman, renowned artist, critic and editor of a+, has curated the show. Eminent architect and critic Shamsul Wares and renowned artist-curator Wakilur Rahman will jointly inaugurate the exhibition.
Habib, who passed away in 1988, was always truthful in his artistic language. He did something akin to a breakdown of the monolith of modernism, where meaning remains too close to the motifs. As an artist, he placed the motifs in the context of the ‘theatre of nature and life’, rather than investing in the anatomical architecture of humans, animals and trees.
Habib’s drawings, paintings and etchings suggest that he was not a motif-driven artist. He was a ‘performative’ character, often manifesting the quest for truth in his sincere creations, combining nature, humans, emotive forces and senses. These poetic and panoramic elements of his works are evident in the exhibition.
Unveiling The Truth will be open from 3 pm to 9 pm daily except Mondays, till January 19.
