6 RMG waste-laden trucks hijacked
Criminals on Thursday evening hijacked six trucks laden with waste fabrics of garment industry in Ashulia, and injured at least five people including a journalist who was taking photos of the hijacking.
However, they later abandoned three of the goods-laden trucks in Baipail area of Ashulia.
The injured journalist was Omar Faruque, staff correspondent of Banglanews24.com.
Police said the trucks were carrying jhut worth about Tk 8 lakh from Grameen Knit Wear Ltd in DEPZ area to a buyer, Siddikur Rahman, in Kabirpur. The criminals hijacked the vehicles in DEPZ area, and beat up some of the helpers and the journalist, who happened to be at the spot taking photos, said Faruque and witnesses.
They also broke Faruque's camera, he added.
Faruque identified one of the criminals as a resident of the area, Shafayet.
Shafayet could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
Md Azharul Islam Sarker, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Ashulia Police Station, said they have recorded complaints of Faruque and Siddikur Rahman, and a case was being lodged.
