6 more held over Bogra Sonali Bank heist

Police, in an overnight drive, arrested six more people for their alleged involvement with the burglary of Tk 30.8 lakh from Adamdighi branch of Sonali Bank in Bogra.
The amount has been taken away from the branch by digging a 30-feet tunnel from a nearby furniture shop into the vault of the bank.
The bank staff came to know about the burglary yesterday as the office was closed on Friday.
The arrestees are: Ruhul Amin, a security guard of the bank; carpenters Nazrul Islam, Shafiqul Islam, Mridul Mia and Abdul Wahed of the furniture shop; and welder Abdul Latif from different parts of the district.
Amin left his job on February 28 citing personal reasons, said Shamsuddin Sharif, manager of the branch.
Meanwhile, the bank authorities formed a five-member body led by TM Afzal Hossain, the general manager of Sonali Bank (Rajshahi), to investigate the robbery.
The four persons, who were detained soon after the robbery came to the light, were shown arrested last night immediately after a case was filed in this connection, reports our Bogra correspondent.
Sonali Bank Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Bogra Zone Abdus Samad filed the case against a number of unknown persons with Adamdighi Police Station last night.
To find out more clues, police questioned Shamsuddin Sharif and Cashier Azharul Islam in the morning.
But details about the finding could not be known immediately.
The normal activities of the bank however are going on under police protection from this morning.
After the burglary disclosed yesterday, police detained ansar members Purnadev Sarkar and Milon Mia, who were in-charge of the bank's security; and Ashraful Islam, owner of the shop, Biplob Furniture; and his employee Shahin Mia.
Contacted, Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station, said police are looking into the matter seriously and are trying their best to trace out the criminals and the looted money.
In the meantime, Khorshid Hossain, additional deputy inspector general (DIG) of Rajshahi range police visited the spot today.
Earlier on January 24 applying the same technique, a robber stole Tk 16.40 crore from Sonali Bank's main branch in Kishoreganj.
