5 killed in Brahmanbaria road crash
Five people including four members of a family were killed in a head-on collision between a private car and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria this afternoon.
Police said the accident took place around 2:45pm near Zilani Filling Station at Shahbazpur village, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.
Sub-Inspector Md Rafiqul Islam, of Khatihata Highway Police Outpost, said the deceased were identified as Md Ekhlasur Rahman, 35, a senior staff of the eye department of Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital; his wife Morium Begum Jarna, 22, a primary school teacher; their two sons --- Thahsin, 4, and Tanbhir, six months; and the CNG driver aged around 22.
According to eyewitness, police and hospital sources, the CNG-run auto-rickshaw with five passengers on board was going to Habiganj from Brahmanbaria while it crashed into the Dhaka-bound Pajero from Sylhet.
Two passengers and the driver of the auto-rickshaw died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries at Brahmanbaria Sadar hospital. The lone surviving occupant of the three-wheeler is now fighting for life at the hospital.
The bodies were sent to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
