10 killed as bus hits tree in Jessore
At least 10 people were killed and 16 injured as a bus hit a roadside tree in Jhikorgachha upazila of Jessore this morning.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, reports our Jessore correspondent quoting Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police (Sadar) of the district.
A bus of Shohagh Paribahan dashed a tree at Godkhali on Jessore-Benapole road as its driver lost control over the steering around 6:30am, said Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Jhikorgachha Police Station.
Six passengers of the bus died on the spot while four succumbed to their injuries at Jhikorgachha Upazila Health Complex and Jessore Medical College and Hospital, ASP Sharmin said.
The deceased were mostly from Comilla, Kishoreganj and Demra of Dhaka, she added.
The injured were whisked off to the upazila health complex and different other local hospitals.
The bus was going to Benapole in Sharsha upazila of Jessore from Dhaka.
