Jubair Hossain clinched his maiden Test five-for to fold Zimbabwe’s first innings at 374 runs on the third day of third Test at Chittagong.
His five wickets earned the Tigers a 129-run lead, which was later extended to 152 during the final half an hour of the play.
Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes added 23 runs to the home side with 10 wickets remaining in the 2nd innings.
Zimbabwe produced 261 runs on the third day after ending day two at 113. Raza, 82, Masakadza, 81, Chakbva, 65, and Chigumbura, 88, each produced significant contributions.
Apart from Jubair’s five-for, Shafiul Islam claimed two wickets and Shakib Al Hasan, Taijul Islam and Rubel Hossain each claimed one wicket.
Zimbabwe saw two significant and resilient partnerships between Masakadza and Raza, and Chakbva and Chigumbura in their first innings.
Today, Shafiul made the important breakthroughs for Bangladesh removing Masakadza and Chakabva. Jubair made another with the wicket of Raza.
Jubair removed the last man Chigumbura and reigned him from a maiden Test ton.
The pitch at Chittagong’s Zahur Amed Chowdhury Stadium turned out to be flat with very little in the offering for bowlers. However, the pitch was expected to turn.
Earlier on day two, Shakib Al Hasan scored his 16th Test 50 and the tail ender provided an entertaining finish to heave Bangladesh to a first innings total of 503.
Masakadza and Raza quickfired 103 for Zimbabwe during the last 26 overs of play, both going past the half-century mark, after the visiting side came down to bat their first innings.
On day one, Bangladesh piled 303 riding on record-breaking partnership of Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes with both scoring 100 and Tamim his first at his home ground in Chittagong.
