Youth shot dead by robbers

A young man was shot dead by a gang of robbers at Goakhali Tekpara village in Pekua upazila early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Khalek, 28, son of Ula Mia of the village.

Abdur Rakib, officer in-charge of Pekua Police Station, said a gang of masked robbers, numbering 6-7, swooped on the house of businessman Mir Kashem at the village and took the people of the house hostage at gunpoint around 2:30am.

Hearing the hue and cry, villagers including Khalek, rushed to the spot and tried to resist the robbers.

While fleeing the scene, the robbers opened fire on the villagers, leaving Khalek dead on the spot.
