Writs seek HC order on Ebola counter
Two separate writ petitions were filed with the High Court today seeking necessary directives on the government to tackle Ebola virus within Bangladesh.
One petition of the Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh sought the HC’s order on the government for specialised treatment for Ebola-affected victims.
Petition lawyer Manzill Murshid said public health was vulnerable to Ebola as the virus had spread to several countries in the world. “Bangladesh may be affected if the virus enters the country.”
The other petition sought a directive for deployment of monitoring teams and doctors at all land ports, airports and sea ports to scan Ebola virus contamination among people entering the country.
Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akand filed writ petitions as a public interest litigation. “The government has not taken enough measures to prevent spread of Ebola,” he said.
The petitions might be heard on Sunday, lawyers Mazill Murshid and Eunus Ali told The Daily Star.
