Udichi's Satyen Sen Ganosangeet Utshab ends

A three-day (March 28-30 ) Satyen Sen Ganosangeet Utshab and National Ganosangeet Competition 2014 concluded yesterday at the Music and Dance auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Marking the 106th birth anniversary of Satyen Sen (1907-1981), a litterateur, journalist and socio-cultural activist, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi organised the festival.
Noted Ganosangeet artiste Kamruddin Absar inaugurated the festival at the open premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on March 28 morning.
The festival was an occasion for Ganosangeet lovers to pay homage to Satyen Sen, the founder of the Udichi Shilpigoshthi.
The evening session of the event began with a choral rendition of the national anthem. President of Udichi, Kamal Lohani hoisted the flag of the organisation. Singer Sayan performed several solos including “O Allah Tomar Kachhey Koi” and “Ki Korechhey Tomar Baba” at the event.
A discussion followed where vice-presidents of Udichi -- Shankar Shawjal, Dr. Chandan Das and Habibul Alam; general secretary Prabir Sardar, president of Ganosangeet Samannay Parishad Fakir Alamgir, and noted Indian Ganosangeet artiste and researcher Shuvendu Maiti spoke. Eminent cultural personality Kamal Lohani presided over the discussion.
Thirty eight artistes along with seven Ganosangeet troupes from the district and divisional level took part in the national level competition in three groups. Later, Udichi artistes along with the contestants and guests artistes presented ganosangeet and dances.
On the second day (March 29) of the festival, a discussion p was held where Professor Emeritus Serajul Islam Choudhury, former president of the organisation Syed Hasan Imam, invited guest Shuvendu Maiti and vice president of Udichi Mahmud Selim spoke. Former president of Udichi Golam Mohammad Idu presided over the discussion. Golam Mohammad Idu unveiled a Ganosangeet album “Gorib Dukhir Apon Keho Nai”, recorded by Siddique Molla.
Noted singers Shuvendu Maiti, Bulbul Mahlanbish, Kafil Ahmed, Krishnokoli, Shayan and Nibedita Topu rendered solo songs while Udichi artistes (Kafrul Branch) with artistes of Bonhishikha and Sangskritik Union performed choral songs.
The closing day's event was held at the Music and Dance auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy where Indian Ganosangeet artist Shuvendu Maiti performed solos.
