Two shot by BSF on Thakurgaon border

Two Bangladeshi nationals were shot by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Ratnai border in Baliadangi upazila of the district early yesterday.

The injured are Chainu Mia, 30, son of Dudu Mia of Barsha village and Md Idris Ali, 25, son of Kalizuddin of Taltola village under the upazila.

Major Touhid-bin-Ishaq, acting commanding officer of BGB-30 Battalion, said Indian border guards of Sonamoti camp opened fire on the duo while they were trying to enter India through the border near pillar No.382/2-S at around 4:20am, leaving them injured. 

Both the victims, however, managed to return to Bangladeshi territory and took treatment secretly to evade arrest, local sources said.     

BGB strongly protested the incident and sent a letter, asking its Indian counterpart for holding a company commander level flag meeting on the issue.  

The firing incident took place within 24 hours of a sector commander-level flag meeting held on Monday at zero point of Jagdal border under Ranishankoil upazila of the district.     

The two sides agreed to maintain peace on the border and solve border related problems through discussion. At the meeting, both sides also agreed not to fire on unarmed people a6t the frontier.
