A gang of four robbed the official residence of a secretary in the capital's Mohammadpur Friday night, taking away Tk 17 lakh in cash, two tolas of gold, and two cellphones.
The looting took place around 11:00pm at the two-storey building of Abdul Halim, secretary to the public administration ministry, said police.
The secretary said the gang broke open the collapsible gate when his wife was alone. “They demanded money and other valuables from her before tying her up,” he said, quoting her wife whom he found lying unconscious on the floor, returning home at 12:00am.
Abdul Halim said he received the money from selling a piece of land last month. The robbers were aged between 30 and 35, while one was masked, he said.
Police visited the house around 1:00am. A case was lodged with Mohammadpur Police Station.
