Sylhet police sue JCD leaders
Sylhet police filed a case on Friday accusing 70 Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) men, including the presidents and general secretaries of the city and district units who are among the 30 named, centring a factional clash when 10 activists were injured and several motorcycles torched in the city that day.
Till yesterday, five persons were arrested over the charges of assaulting police, blasting crackers and obstructing traffic in the case filed by Sub-inspector Kamal Hossain, stated law enforcers of Kotwali Model Police Station.
JCD sources said disgruntled activists left out from the new city and district units, declared on September 18, attacked a procession of some 100 activists led by the new leaders under the banner Ilias Mukti Sangram Parishad, leading to clashes and chase and counter chase in Zindabazar and Shaheed Minar areas.
Police charged baton and fired tear gas shells to disperse the factions.
