Staff placed on 3-day remand
A Kishoreganj court yesterday placed Abu Bakar, an MLSS at the Sonali Bank main branch in the town, on a three-day remand in a case filed over the bank heist.
The order came after Kishoreganj Sadar police had produced him before the court for seeking a five-day remand for him, said Officer-in-Charge Abdul Malek.
Yusuf Munshi, the culprit behind looting the bank through digging a tunnel from an adjacent tin-roofed house, struck up a friendship with Bakar to get details about the bank's interior and the vault.
Police arrested Bakar in Kishoreganj while Rab held siblings, Yusuf and Idris Munshi, in the capital with Tk 16.19 crore kept in five sacks Tuesday.
Meanwhile, police yesterday afternoon seized the truck rented by Yusuf for carrying the looted money along with 230 sacks of rice from Kishoreganj to Dhaka and detained its helper Alamgir of Bhola, reports our Kishoreganj correspondent.
The truck was seized from Atharobari in Iswarganj of Mymensingh, said Malek, also investigation officer of the case, adding the trucker was not found.
Yusuf told journalists Tuesday that he gave Alamgir Tk 7 lakh as he could realise the presence of looted money.
Police Saturday recovered Tk 2.5 lakh more in a house in the capital and yet to recover the rest of the looted Tk 16.40 crore.
