Firoz Ahmed wins BSPA award

The Daily Star's staff photographer Firoz Ahmed won the best photographer award at the Max BSPA Night award ceremony on Saturday night.

Firoz won the Badrul Huda Trophy in the sports photography category for his acclaimed photograph of a mother playing cricket with her son at the Paltan Maidan in Dhaka, printed on the front page of The Daily Star on September 12, 2020.

The photographer also bagged a cheque of Tk 20,000, beating Kaler Kantho's special photographer Mir Farid to second position and Prothom Alo's special photographer Shamsul Haque Tenku to third position.

The awards were given away at a hotel in Dhaka on Saturday night. Prothom Alo's special correspondent Masud Alam bagged the sports journalist of the year award. In other categories, Noman Mohammad of Not Out Noman fame and Rahenur Islam of Kaler Kantho won top prizes.

Conducted by BSPA president Sanat Babla, the programme was attended, among others, by state minister for youth and sports Zahid Ahsan Rassel MP.
