Lewis powers WI to a seven-wicket win against Pakistan
Opener Evin Lewis produced a breathtaking innings as West Indies beat Pakistan by seven wickets to keep the four-match T20I series alive at Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Saturday.
Chasing 138 to win their first match against Sarfraz Ahmed’s men in six outings, the Caribbean giants lost opener Chadwick Walton in the second over.
However, his loss did not affect the run-chase as Lewis produced astonishing display of power-hitting as he scored 91 off just 51 balls to take his side home with more than five overs to spare.
The 25-year-old left-hander smashed nine sixes and five fours in his innings, as he single-handedly took his team close to victory 138, and was deservedly nominated as the best player of the match. Almost all the Pakistani bowler bore the brunt of Lewis furry including sensational young leg-spinner Shadab Khan, who went for 38 runs in 3.5 overs. Sahdab finally had Lewis caught at long-off by Wahab Riaz, but by that time the left-hander made sure of an easy win with more than five overs to spare.
Earlier, after opting to bat first, Pakistan managed to post 137 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Opener Kamran Akmal finished the innings with the top score of 48 off 37 balls, whereas Babar Azam scored 43 off 38 balls.
For West Indies, leg-spinner Samuel Badree took two, whereas pacers Kesrick Williams, Carlos Brathwaite and off-spinners Sunil Narine, Marlon Samules claimed a wicket each.
Pakistan lead the four-match series 2-1, and the final match will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
