Dipok, Nipu get call-up to national team
Bangladesh national football team's head coach Javier Cabrera called up two new faces while excluding one from the previous squad when declaring a 32-member preliminary squad for the two FIFA Friendly matches against Afghanistan next month.
The two matches will be held at the Bashundhara Kings Arena in Dhaka on September 4 and 7.
Sheikh Russel forward Dipok Roy and Azampur FC forward Sarwar Zaman Nipu are the two fresh faces in the preliminary squad, although both are quite familiar faces in domestic football and have been regarded as future stars for a long time.
The only player to be left out of the squad from the last team, which played in the SAFF Championship recently, is Fortis FC forward Rafikul Islam.
A few players including Rimon Hossain, Alomgir Molla, Matin Mia and jafar Iqbal returned to the longlisted squad.
However, the coach said that this squad features players from the senior national alongside some from the Asian Games, who will eventually be left out from the Afghanistan matches.
Training will get underway on Monday while the players will report at the Regency Hotel tomorrow, the coach informed at a press conference at the BFF House today.
The Afghanistan team will arrive in Dhaka on August 26 and will stay at the same hotel and will train at the same venue, Bangladesh Football Federation's vice-president Kazi Nabil Ahmed later informed through a video message.
