Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan struck his first double century as the record fifth wicket stand of 359 with captain Mushfiqur Rahim placed the tourists at 519 for 5 against New Zealand in the first Test at Wellington today.

Bangladesh started the day on 154 for three in 40.2 overs with Mominul batting on 64 and Shakib Al Hasan giving him company on five.

On Thursday Tamim hit a 50-ball 56 either side of a morning interruption that extended through the post-lunch session. Mominul and Mahmudullah Riyad then combined for an 85-run third-wicket partnership either side of the second interruption that spilled over into the evening session before Mahmudullah chased a wide delivery and was caught off Neil Wagner.

Shakib survived a dropped chance late in the day when Mitchell Santner spilled a simple chance at square leg.
