Zakir makes history with debut ton at Chattogram
Bangladesh batter Zakir Hasan picked up an incredible ton at Chattogram's Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium today in what was his debut Test. He became the first batter for Bangladesh to hit a ton in the fourth innings of his debut Test.
The 24-year-old left-handed opener swept Axar Patel for four to complete the hundred and then took off his helmet to jump and pump his fist in celebration of the historic moment.
Aminul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful and Abul Hasan are the only other batters from Bangladesh to hit ton on debut with Aminul's ton coming in Bangladesh's debut Test against India in 2000.
Zakir departed to Ravichandran Ashwin after he got an inside-edge onto his pads and the ball looped to Virat Kohli at slip, who dove forward to take the catch. Zakir's patient 224-ball 100 was laced with 13 fours and a six.
Zakir became only the second opener to hit ton on the fourth innings with West Indies' Leonard Baichan being the first. Only eight batters hit ton in fourth innings of debut Test before Zakir, with Kyle Mayers' being the last to achieve the feat before Zakir during his unbeaten ton against Bangladesh at this very ground.
