Probably accumulated gas caused the blast: DMP chief

Primarily it is suspected that accumulated gas may have caused the explosion at the building in Gulistan, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq today.

He said this incident was very similar to what had happened at the building in Science Lab area a few days ago.

At least 17 people were killed and more than 100 injured in an explosion at a building in Dhaka's Gulistan area this evening.

Fire officials said the explosion took place around 4:45pm near the BRTC bus counter. The fire service could not immediately provide the cause behind the huge explosion.

Eleven firefighting units are working at the scene to carry out a rescue operation, said Rashed Bin Khaled, duty officer of the fire service control room.
