Square pharma official killed

Muggers killed an official of Square Pharmaceuticals Ltd in Shalaipur area under Sadar upazila early yesterday. The deceased is Md Anwar Hossain, 38, son of Abul Hossain of village Ekdanta in Atghoria upazila and a senior executive (production) of the pharmaceuticals. Locals said a gang killed Anwar at 12:30am when he was returning home from his office and took away his motorbike. Anwar's killers are local gang of muggers, said police.
BSF frees detained boy

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) returned a Bangladeshi boy hours after his yesterday. The boy is identified as Md Wasim, 12, son of Altaf Hossain of Geruadangi village in Haripur upazila, said an official of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Commanding Officer of BGB-30 Lt Col Kaman Ahmed said a BSF patrol team arrested Wasim when he was working at their cropland near Dabri border area in the upazila around 11:00am. In the afternoon, BSF handed Wasim over to BGB following a flag meeting, he said.
BNP man held for burning bikes

The prime accused in a case filed for burning 48 motorbikes of local Awami League men last year was arrested in Bawra Bazar area of Patgram upazila on Sunday night. The arrestee is village doctor Shamsul Haque, 49, son of late Jamsher Ali of Nabinagar village and president of Bawra union unit BNP. He is also accused in several other cases, including one for instigating a gang to set a temple at Shafirhat village in the union on fire on January 4 this year. On December 19 last year, a group of BNP-Jamaat men, led by Shamsul, swooped on the meeting of local AL men at Bawra Bazar and set the motorbikes on fire there.
BCL leaders held, arms seized

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested two local leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student front of ruling Awami League, from beside the BCL office in the town on Sunday night. The two were identified as Saidul Haque, 21, convenor of Sonagazi Upazila unit of BCL and Abdullah alias Rinku, 20, convenor of Amirabad Union unit of BCL under the same upazila. According to Rab sources a team of Rab-7 detained them after recovering two knives and a foreign made pistol with bullets from their motorbike.
