AL man stabbed to death

A local Awami League leader was hacked to death in Karampur area under Borolekha upazila on Tuesday night. The deceased is Bodrul Ahmed, 40, AL upazila unit youth secretary and son of Moyub Ali of the area. Police said a gang of masked criminals on three motorbikes attacked Bodrul with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured while he was returning home around 11:30pm. He was rushed to the upazila health complex where on duty doctors declared him dead, said Abul Kasem, officer in-charge of Borolekha Police Station.
Land feud kills one

A man was killed and nine others were injured in a clash over a piece of disputed land at Ronikhai village in Companyganj upazila on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Sujit Baidya, 30, son of Shetu Baidya of the village. Locals said Subodh Baidya of the village and Jagesh Biswas of Betmura village had a longstanding conflict over the land. On Tuesday morning, both groups equipped with lethal weapons locked into a clash in the area around 8:00am, leaving Sujit dead on the spot and nine others injured. Of the injured, two were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital while the rest to the upazila health complex.
3 held on extortion charge

Army personnel arrested three men on extortion charges in Boding Para area under Thanchi upazila on Tuesday evening. The arrestees are Ram Bung Mro, 36, Three Tang Mro, 37, and Aba Mro, 38, of the upazila. Police said acting on a tip-off, a team of army arrested the trio while they were demanding illegal toll from the Karbari (Para chief) of Boding Para. They also recovered a handmade gun and lethal weapons from their possession. A case was filed in this connection, said Md Omar Ali, officer in-charge of Thanchi Police Station.
Four shops gutted

At least four shops were gutted in a fire at Sawrupkathi Bazar in Nesarabad upazila on Tuesday night. Locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop and soon engulfed the adjoining shops. On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the flame after one hour of frantic efforts. The affected shop owners claimed that the loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 10 lakh.
Outlaws kill trader

Undergrounds operatives killed a local trader in Santhia upazila on Monday night. The deceased is Bakul Hossain, 32, son of Samad Pramanik of Paiksha village. Officer in-Charge of Santhia Police Station Md Shahed Mahamud suspected that the members of outlawed Nokshal Bahini killed him with sharp weapons as a sequel to previous enmity. The body was sent to Pabna Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the OC.
