5 Bangladeshis held in India

Five Bangladeshi nationals were held in Ramnagar camp area of India early yesterday. They are Babul Mondal, Chhuti Mondal, Sultan Ahmed, Tuhin Hossain of Milebari village and Kamal Hossain of Khoshalpur village in Moheshpur upazila. Subeder Shahid Hossain, commander of BGB Kushumpur camp in the upazila, said Indian police arrested the five when they crossed the border to bring their cattle around 4:00pm.
Newsman hurt in attack

A local journalist sustained stab injuries in an attack by criminals at Borobaria village in Chitalmari upazila on Monday. Son of Muslim Ali Sheikh of the village, Shafiqul Islam Shafa, 45, is a local correspondent of the Daily Purbanchal. Locals said Shafiqul came under the attack while he was going to the upazila headquarters from his house in the morning. He was admitted to the upazila health complex. The reason behind the attack could not be known immediately, said police.
Man held with arms

Police arrested an alleged criminal along with a pistol and five bullets in Hossainpur-Satbaria area under Sadar Dakkhin upazila early yesterday. The arrestee is Abul Basar alias Kankata Basar, 35, son of Yakub Ali of the village. He was accused in number of cases including for arms, robbery and looting, said officer in-charge Gazi Shakwat Hossain of Sadar Dakkhin police station.
Two drug addicts jailed

A mobile court sentenced two drug addicts to one year's imprisonment each for pushing contraband injection openly at the rubber dam in Talma River of Panchagarh Sadar upazila on Monday. The convicts are Johirul Haque, 28, of Ramerdanga and Robiul Islam, 27, of Tulardanga in Panchagarh municipality area. On secret information, a Detective Branch (DB) of police team raided the rubber dam area and arrested the duo. They also recovered four ampoules of Indian contraband injections and a syringe from their possession.
Housewife murdered

A housewife was stabbed to death allegedly by her neighbour at Hapaniamatpara village in Sherpur upazila on Monday. The deceased was identified as Salma Begum, 35, wife of Monowar Uddin of the village. Police and family sources said, Salma got Tk 1.5 lakh as a share after the land property of her father was sold a few days ago. Knowing it, Enamul Haque, son of Mottalleb Hossain of the area, demanded the money. On Monday morning, Enamul waylaid Salma, stabbed her, causing her death at hospital.
