Anime to look forward to in 2022

2021 was a thriving year for anime. It gave us incredible new shows like Odd Taxi, Jujutsu Kaisen, Horimiya, Mushoku Tensei, To Your Eternity, and many others, while also giving us sequels of critically acclaimed shows like Jojo's Bizarre Adventures, Fruits Basket, Attack On Titan and more.

With a new year comes new content to enjoy, and here are the top new anime shows and continuations to look forward to in 2022.

Chainsaw Man

Racking in enormous numbers in manga sales, Shonen Jump's ever popular Chainsaw Man finally receives an anime adaptation.

Unfiltered action, gore and unpredictable elements of psychological thriller that this show boasts will certainly take viewers on a wild ride. The story manages to keep itself planted with relatable character moments and engaging plot points while keeping the exposition to a minimum, making Chainsaw Man a show you should not miss out on.

My Dressup Darling

My Dressup Darling or Sono Bisque Doll is a lovely rom-com featuring an introverted guy who likes making dolls and an outwardly girl who is into cosplaying.

Despite the stereotype of polar opposites in romances being very much prevalent, My Dressup Darling manages to keep itself fresh by exploring the intersection of the hobbies of the protagonists in depth. The romance is slow, but the development of chemistry between the characters makes it endearing, posing itself as the ideal romcom pick of the year.

Vinland Saga season 2

Vinland Saga gave us one of the best viking stories in years. It is a shame that its popularity got truncated due to its Amazon Prime exclusive launch.

Nevertheless the show returns, continuing from the dramatic ending of the previous season, and takes us on a journey of revenge, drama, politics and heart wrenching emotions in the quest of achieving true inner peace.

Spy x Family

Launched in 2019, Spy x Family quickly became the favourite light hearted slice of life of many. However, calling it just a slice of life would do the show injustice, as it also has great action and comedy.

Centering around the made up family of a detective husband, an assassin and a mind reading child where everybody hides their true identity, the show calls for many whimsical scenarios which can be both hilarious and wholesome, making Spy x Family an enjoyable watch to most viewers.

Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2

Attack on Titan approaches its closure after entertaining us for over a decade. The show has some of the most empowering characters with strongly explored viewpoints, and the shift of focus from revenge to geopolitics to ideology shows the maturity the show has developed over time.

Attack on Titan will certainly leave a void in its place, which might not be filled for quite a while.

Bleach Thousand Year Blood War Arc

Cancelled in 2012, Bleach returns from the dead to premier its final arc of the manga. The Thousand Year Blood War arc has new characters, a new core antagonist and the return of many familiar faces.

The all out war has the most fights in the entirety of the show and if the adaptation stays true to the manga, in terms of portrayal of the dark themes of Bleach, often absent in its earlier anime adaptations, fans will be more than ecstatic to celebrate the resurgence of this Goliath.

Honourable mentions

Aside from these six, there are more incredible new upcoming anime releases like Blue Lock, The Orbital Children, Hell's Paradise, Summertime Rendering and Uzamaki.

Moreover, some more beloved shows returning for their long awaited sequel include Mob Psycho, Made in Abyss and Devil is a Part Timer. Besides, last year's top grossing shows are also having a continuation which include Doctor Stone, One Piece, To Your Eternity, and Demon Slayer.
