Large Blue Flycatcher, Cyornis magnirostris, a new species of bird for Bangladesh, was sighted in a mixed evergreen forest patch at Kaptai National Park in Rangamati last month. It was recorded by Prof Monirul Khan, who was leading a team under the project “Monitoring and Conservation of Wildlife in Kaptai National Park of Bangladesh” of Jahangirnagar University Zoology department and Bangladesh Forest Department. A key feature of the species is the hooked tip of its bill. Other identifying characters include the orange throat paler than the breast, contrasting cheek and throat, and pale legs.
