Remembering Victory

People from all walks of life celebrated the 42nd Victory Day across the country on December 16, 2013, paying tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to liberate the country from the Pakistani occupation force in 1971, and with a renewed call for executing all the verdicts against war criminals. The national flag was hoisted atop all public and private buildings while the islands of roads, educational institutions and other buildings were illuminated and decorated with posters and banners. A total of 27,117 volunteers, mostly students, stood up with red and green blocks to form the world's largest human flag at the National Parade Ground in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The Sector Commanders Forum, 2013 Bijoy Udjapon Committee and Gonojagoron Mancha attempted to set a world record by gathering an estimated three lakh people at Suhrawardy Udyan to sing the national anthem together. A spectacular firework display lit up the evening sky above Suhrawardy Udyan giving a renewed hope to people for a better future.
