Ratna fails, so do others
The 26-year-old shooter qualified for the final round in third position with an aggregate score of 413.8 points to bolster hopes of an entire nation. But the shooter from Magura failed to replicate that performance in the final round as she became the third among eight qualifiers to be eliminated, having scored 122 in ten shots.
Ratna's compatriot Syeda Sadia Sultana, who is also an SA Games gold medalist, earlier failed to qualify for the final round after finishing 10th in the qualification round with a score of 410.8 points.
India's Apurvi Chandela, who finished first in the qualification round, ended up grabbing the gold medal while her compatriot Ayonika Paul clinched the silver medal. Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi of Malaysia grabbed the bronze medal.
The day didn't get any better for Bangladesh as the rest of the Bangladeshi participants in the other disciplines failed to win any medal yesterday. In the 100m freestyle swimming event, Bangladesh's fastest swimmer Mahfizur Rahman Sagar finished 28th out of 63 participants, having clocked 52.97 seconds. The 16th and final qualifier ended the swim in 50.84 seconds.
In the men's skeet shooting, Bangladesh's Noor Islam finished 17th while Iqbal Islam finished 23rd.
Bangladesh table tennis team, comprising of Javed Ahmed, Manash Chowdhury and Mahbub Billah lost in 3-0 matches against their Jamaican counterparts in the men's team classification qualifier 1.
In the round of 32 match in men's boxing 60kg category, Surya Krishna Chakma lost against Chad Milnes of New Zealand.
Bangladeshi female weightlifter Fayema Akter also failed to get into the medals contention. Fayema, competing in the women's 58kg category, lifted a total of 165 kilos -- 75 kilos in snatch and 90 kilos in clean & jerk -- to finish 11th.
