Raped, tortured, she cries for justice

Raped and brutally tortured at her Mostafi village house in Gokunda union in Sadar upazila on Sunday night, mother of a kid is now undergoing treatment at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.
The victim filed a case accusing seven people including the alleged rapist and his relatives with Lalmonirhat Sadar police station on Monday evening and police arrested one of the accused yesterday morning.
Then the alleged rapist and his men vandalised and looted the victim's house and went into hiding, said SI Asaduzzaman, investigation officer of the case.
Police are trying hard to arrest all the culprits, he said.
The arrestee is Habibur Rahman, 22, son of Mokabbel Hossain of Mostafi village in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila.
The other accused are alleged rapist Anisur Rahman, 32, son of Motabbel Hossain, his relatives Tuli Begum, 24, Amina Begum, 27, Mosleha Khatun, 20, Anwar Hossain, 48, and Ena Begum, 45, all of Mostafi village.
"Neighbour Anisur Rahman used to disturb me with an ill motive," the woman told police.
Taking the advantage of my husband's staying away on Sunday night, Anisur entered the house, tied my mouth with cloth and raped me at around 10:00pm, she said.
"At one stage I caught the rapist and cried for help when local people rushed in but none dared to protest as the rapist's family is influential. Then the rapist and his relatives tortured and stabbed me and cut my hair and kept me confined to the home the whole night," the victim said.
The victim's husband said, "I was out of home for family purpose. When I rushed to my home after hearing the matter, the rapist's men gave me death threat. They vandalised my tin-shed house and looted things worth about Tk two lakh as a case was lodged."
Dr Nabiur Rahman, resident medical officer of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, said, "The victim's test is complete. She is under treatment as different parts of her body bear cut marks. She is now out of danger, but looks depressed."
